A PROTEST has been called for this Wednesday, October 26, in Limerick in support of the AAA-PBP bill before the Dail to call a referendum to repeal the 8th amendment.
The protest will take place at 5:30pm on Bedford Row and is being organised by the Limerick campaign group ‘Women Can’t Wait – Repeal the 8th’.
In support of the demonstration, Cllr. Cian Prendiville of AAA said:
“The establishment parties are desperately attempting to kick this issue to touch with the so-called Citizens Assembly. Now the Endapendents are talking about trying to figure out some way to avoid the vote on Ruth Coppinger’s bill and come up with some fudge to kick it to touch. People understand that this is an attempt to delay and to fudge on this crucial issue that we simply can’t wait any longer for real change.
“We will not accept simply tweaking the amendment, and limiting change to one or two particularly horrifying cases such as fatal foetal abnormality. We do not want any woman to be forced to travel to the UK, or risk a prison sentence for having an abortion in Ireland using the safe abortion pills.”
