screen-shot-2016-10-26-at-18-35-33THEY SAY, Charity begins at home, however this week, in Limerick, there is a different kind of home,  the Limerick MONOPOLY home!

‘Passing GO’ later this week, when the official Limerick MONOPOLY board is launched, will be current Limerick Person of the Year for 2015 Katie Whelan.

Ms Whelan’s charity Lisa’s Light is to star on its’ very own Community Chest square on the board, developed by Winning Moves UK under license from MONOPOLY owners Hasbro. The board is out this Friday.

The teenager, from Limerick, last year set up the Lisa’s Light charity in memory of her cousin Lisa, who very sadly took her own life. The idea of the charity is topromote positive mental health as a means of suicide prevention, reminding everyone that there is a reason to smile in every single day.

The 19-year-old’s initiative has been lauded both regionally and internationally. Speaking to the Limerick Post this week Ms Whelan said –

“We are delighted that ‘Lisa’s Light’ is being featured on the official Limerick MONOPOLY board. It means the charity will always be remembered as an integral part of Limerick. It’s an honour to represent Limerick and all the amazing charities here too. We feel this is only the beginning for ‘Lisa’s Light’. Watch this space! ”

On Friday, October 28, at the Hunt Museum, when the board is launched Ms Whelan will be a Guest of Honour and be presented formally with one of the very first games to roll off the presses. The Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Kieran O’Hanlon is also a Guest of Honour at the launch.

The board, launched at The Hunt Museum, will see around 30 Limerick landmarks replacing the famous original MONOPOLY streets like Mayfair and Park Lane including Munster Rugby and The Hunt Museum.
