The Limerick case has been sent for trial to the Special Criminal Court

THREE Limerick men charged in connection with an attack on a 52-year-old man whose feet were nailed to a floor have been sent forward for trial to the Special Criminal Court.

Ger Mackin (33) of Star Court, John Carew Park; Mark Heffernan (32) of Swallow Drive, John Carew Park and Patrick Hayes (52) of Larch Court, Kennedy Park were charged with false imprisonment and assault causing harm to Dan Quilligan on September 14, 2015.

At Limerick District Court this week, the three men were served with books of evidence and the Director of Public Prosecutions certified that they should be sent forward for trial to the three judge, non jury Special Criminal Court.

It is alleged Mr Quilligan was lured to a house in Larch Court, Kennedy Park where he was set upon by three men who were dressed in white boiler suits and claimed they were with the IRA.

It is the State’s case that a nail were shot through Mr Quilligan’s feet and had to be surgically removed in hospital. The gang responsible for the attack demanded €15,000 from the victim.

All three remain in custody.
