“We are Electric Eel Shock! Who the f*ck are you?” #musiclimerick #live

We are Electric Eel Shock! Who the f*ck are your? Is exactly how these punk bandits announced themselves in The High Stool Bar in Limerick many years ago, and little has changed in their operation since.

electric-eel-shockFormed out of Tokyo in 1994 ESS are still insanely brilliant, a sharp shock of Ramones, AC/DC and Black Sabbath, refusing to grow up and forever on a world tour in support of their self-funded albums.

Aki Morimoto (Guitar & Vocals), Kazuto Maekawa(Bass) and Tomoharu ‘Gian’ Ito (Drums) celebrated 21 years on the road last year and claim a strong connection with and support from their fans.

ESS are one of the first bands to use crowd funding. In 2004 they raised $10,000 from 100 fans (the Samurai 100) by offering them guest-list for life. Two years later they became the fastest band to raise the $50,000 budget through SellaBand. EES and their UK based manager Bob Slayer were consultants for the  fledgling PledgeMusic and blazed a trail in establishing the viability of crowd funding in music today.

They have now launched their own crowd funding site Fan-Bo.com where fans of Japanese pop culture can support independent bands, artists and writers.
