LABOUR Party councillor Elena Secas has welcomed the introduction of a bus route linking Monaleen and Castletroy to the public transport network.

Since her election to Limerick City and County Council in May 2014, Cllr Secas has persistently campaigned for a new bus route to link these growing residential areas. This week she described the introduction of the bus route, which will operate daily every 30 minutes linking the University and Monaleen to Raheen via the ciity centre and Colbert Station, as an “early Christmas present”.

“Bus Éireann have confirmed to me that the new service, Route 304A, will kick off on Sunday December 4. It has been a long road for me in terms of representations and engagement with them since August 2014 when I initially submitted an official request to Bus Éireann to introduce public transport to the Monaleen/Castletroy area for the first time ever and after the two years of continuous representations I am delighted to see this finally coming to fruition,” she told the Limerick Post.

“The new bus route will bring public service transport right into the heart of our community as it will serve an area which has never been served before and will link Monaleen/Castletroy to Raheen, increasing thus directness and network coverage.

The City East councillor thanked Bus Éireann for listening to the demand from local people for a public bus service in the area, which, she said, would benefit both the local and the wider community.

“Of course, any further development of this new bus route will depend on the public uptake of this service,” she concluded.
