YouthBank funding for South East Limerick

killmallock-ycYOUTH groups from South East Limerick received much needed funding this week to run youth mental health and wellbeing programmes.

Allocated by members of Limerick Youth Service’s EIC (Every Idea Counts) YouthBank, the grants will enable youth groups and clubs to run programmes that support mental health and wellbeing in the area.

As part of the YouthBank programme, young people participated in a comprehensive training programme where they learned new skills in leadership, team-work and communication to name but a few.

The participants, who are all students from St John the Baptist Community School in Hospital, raised funds by bag-packing at the local Supervalu in Kilmallock with all monies raised matched by YouthBank.

“YouthBank is a national initiative run by young people, for young people with a youth committee elected to recruit members, decide on the funding criteria and allocate grants,” Lisa O’Connor of Limerick Youth Service explained.

The beneficiaries of this year’s funding were Cappamore Cools Club, Fedamore Youth Club, Kilfrush Crusaders, Kilmallock Youth Club, Knocklong Youth Club and the Kilteely/Dromkeen/Garrydoolis Community Games.

“From our initial meetings, raising funds, allocating funding and promoting YouthBank and Limerick Youth Service, the young people were great ambassadors for their communities, families and themselves,’ Ms O’Connor said.
