Shandon Trio violinist at St Mary’s Cathedral

LIMERICK Post provides frequent nudges to all communities to come along to the Wednesday lunchtime series of free concerts at St Mary’s Cathedral. The man behind the programme, organist Peter Barley, advises us of two delightful gigs ahead.

“We are delighted to welcome back violinist Siún Milne to St Mary’s on Wednesday May 31, 1.15pm. Siún is a member of the Shandon Trio, and it is with them that she will perform music for string trio by Beethoven and Kodaly.

“On June 7, we have a quite different programme when organist Daniel Battle will be putting the mighty St Mary’s Cathedral organ through its paces. His programme consists of just one work, the ‘Sonata on the 94th Psalm’ by Juilus Reubke. “This is a highly dramatic work, by turn introspective and impassioned, and it’s a rare opportunity to hear one of the warhorses of the Romantic organ repertoire.”

Everybody is welcome.
