ELEMENTAL Festival: Funding to the tune of €8000 is awarded finally to Elemental arts and culture festival, ever a September fixture.

The monies are awarded under Strand 1 of the Festivals and Events grant from The Arts Council and are welcome security to this three day event run by savvy volunteers, among them Limerick Post’s Jennifer Allen.

This co-founder told us that “the funding itself is hugely helpful, naturally, but getting such a significant national endorsement is really gratifying too. In such a competitive funding stream, it’s proof that we’re doing something right!”

Elemental is multi-platform, multi-mediacitywide September 8 to 10.

DANCE Limerick has appointed Emer Casey as its new programme and communications coordinator. She has a background in marketing and education for visual arts and has worked with several organisations and festivals in the city including Limerick Printmakers, The Limerick Spring Festival and Limerick 2020.

Currently undertaking a Masters in Festive Arts at UL, she takes up where the capable Maeve Butler left off at the John’s Square resource centre to pursue a hot post in her native Wexford.

FRIARS’ Gate is host to Footsteps Youth Theatre on Wednesday 7 next at 8pm for Tom Swift’s ‘The Leavetaking’.

We hear: “A group of friends search for answers as they relive the night of their end-of-school debs party, while navigating a drink fuelled mess of mistakes, misunderstandings and murder.” Sounds jolly.

Footsteps Youth Theatre is a joint initiative between Foróige and Friars’ Gate and is a member of Youth Theatre Ireland. www.friarsgate.ie
