Keary wants cameras in Rathkeale by Christmas

“IT is time to get off the benches and into action”.

That was the rallying cry from Fine Gael councillor Stephen Keary to Limerick City and County Council as he urged the local authority to have CCTV cameras in operation in Rathkeale in time for next Christmas.

“We were told we would have them for June or July this year. It doesn’t look now like we will have them installed in time for Christmas for those people who want close monitoring,” he told the council executive at this month’s Adare-Rathkeale district meeting.

He was told that council members would receive a progress report on the Smart CCTV Pilot Scheme at next month’s meeting.

The scheme, which will cost €500,000, sees Newcastle West, Askeaton and Rathkeale in West Limerick among the areas being looked at as priorities to have up to four CCTV cameras installed in each town by Christmas. The Council aims to increase its CCTV monitoring capability with 100 new cameras.
