Terry Wogan memorial sculpture to be unveiled in Limerick City

THE UNVEILING of the Terry Wogan memorial sculpture in Limerick City in memory of the late radio presenter will take place on this Saturday, June 24.
A day of celebration and commemoration has been planned to mark the official unveiling of the sculpture by Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr Kieran O’Hanlon, Fianna Fáil.

Rory Breslin is the artist commissioned to create the Terry Wogan Memorial Sculpture. He studied art at the National College of Art and Design. His further education saw him working in England, France, Czech Republic and Slovakia. He returned to Ireland where he co-founded the Head Sculpture Gallery in Dublin. He lectured part-time in the National College of Art and Design in figurative sculpture. His previous public artwork commissions include 2010 Michael Hartnett monument, bronze/limestone, Newcastle West, Co. Limerick.

When announcing the plan to erect the Terry Wogan memorial sculpture, Cllr O’Hanlon said, “He was proud to be from Limerick and a wonderful ambassador for Limerick and Ireland in Britain, at a time when it was difficult.”

On the Boardwalk between 12-5 pm, there will be a pop-up Museum with Limerick Museum inviting Terry Wogan enthusiasts to share their memorabilia; food and coffee stalls with an outdoor seating area; outdoor cinema screen showing archival footage from RTE and I Love Limerick, and street entertainment with Bui Bolg and The Gramophone by Donnocha Cahill. Live music will be provided by Emma Langford, Downtown Dixie Band and Boherbuoy Marching Band.

At Poor Man’s Kilkee, Harvey’s Quay, between 3-4pm unveiling of the Memorial Sculpture will take place by Mayor of the City and County of Limerick Cllr. Kieran O’Hanlon.
