Man rescued in river Shannon incident

A MAN has been rescued from the river Shannon this Thursday night as part of an emergency operation.

Just after 10:35pm, this Thursday evening, emergency services including Limerick City Fire Service were alerted to a male, aged in his mid 20’s, in The River Shannon at Clancy’s Strand – it is believed he entered the river near St Munchin’s Church.

Emergency services including Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, Gardai and the National Ambulance service were alerted.

Limerick City Fire Service launched their rescue boat – FireSwift along with three Fire Appliances with Swiftwater Rescue Technicians on board.

Upon arrival, volunteers from Limerick Suicide Prevention had thrown the man a throw bag and pulled him ashore at the slipway near the Curragower Falls.

Firefighters administered first aid to the man until he was treated on scene by HSE Paramedics and brought to UHL where his physical condition is believed to be non life threatening.
