Eventures will highlight emerging Limerick talent

Adam Reeves, one of the founders of Eventures

TWO Limerick musicians have created an events and artist management company in the city with the aim of investing in emerging musical talent and providing a platform for young acts to record and get gigging experience.

Eventures was founded this year by Adam Reeves and Laura Duff, both experienced musicians based in Limerick. Centred at The Stormy Teacup Cafe, Eventures run regular gigs in the cafe and use other venues throughout the city.

Drummer Adam Reeves told Limerick Post that Eventures have four new Limerick acts signed, have partnered with Limerick recording studio Temper & Flux for recording and live production and are now arranging shows in Cork city.

Laura Duff, one of the founders of Eventures

The aim for Eventures is to remove the barriers that both Adam and Laura had making music in the city. Adam describes a pattern in the city of new bands making an impression, coming on the scene for a few years and then disappearing due to the lack of venues and funding to tour and record.

From running ‘Battle of the Bands’ competitions Eventures have discovered a wealth of new music in the city.

“The talent we have found is incredible. You would assume you would have heard of everyone.”

Eventures are now giving this talent some management backing, recording studio time and putting them on tour.

One act Eventures are working with is Sophie Flanagan.

“Sophie was 17 when we signed her. We saw her soundcheck for a gig and we said ‘Holy shit – something has to be done here’.

The singer/ songwriter is set to record at Temper & Flux Studios and go on tour with management backing of Eventures in the near future.

“We only started Eventures in June/ July so this is growing and ever changing. It is very hard to picture this a year down the line and see where will we be because it is brand new. You go to Galway, Dublin, Cork and there are music scenes there that are incredible – so many artists and so many venues. Eventures is a personal thing for myself and Laura.”

Eventures are running shows in the city over the next few weeks featuring touring acts and local emerging talent with a monthly showcase gig titled NUMB featuring a line up of bands playing on one stage.

Raging Sons at The Stormy Teacup on Thursday 28 and Numb3 at The Library on Friday September 29.

Eventures are in partnership with Focus Ireland to raise funds for the charity which campaigns for everyone’s right to have a place  they can call home.

Eventures will hold a Battle of the Bands Competition, the winner will record a single to be released to raise funds for Focus Ireland. Information on how to take part at entries@thestormyteacup.ie. The first heat of the competition happens on Wednesday September 27.
