Manchester based Shunya brings his highly rated electronic/jazz home to #Limerick

LIMERICK’S Shunya aka Alan Keary comes from a family steeped in music. His father Dave Keary tours and records with Van Morrison.

Now based in Manchester, Alan is a multi – instrumentalist, producer and string enthusiast. Shunya and his five piece band from Manchester will embark on a tour of Ireland this month.

Shunya’s music is described as an amalgamation of influences, ranging from his early musical background of classical violin to the sounds of Manchester’s electronic music scene. Influences reference the likes of Flying Lotus, Bjork and Eric Whitacre.

Shunya’s music is heard across the UK and he has carved out his niche in the underground jazz / electronica scene.

His single Wonder N Wane (feat Hayley Pip Williams) was picked up by Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1). BBC radio Manchester and Ilovemanchester have ranked Shunya in their “top 5 local bands making it big in Manchester”.

The multi – instrumentalist and producer has worked with producer Mike Bennet (The Fall, Ian Brown) and collaborated with DJ Yoda, Craig Gannon (The Smiths) and Nick McCabe (The Verve).

 

On the upcoming tour Shunya and his five piece band bring a very vibrant live show edging on dance music with virtuosic solos flying above live beats drawing similarities to the likes of Snarky Puppy or Robert Glasper.

Catch Shunya at DIE, Dolans on Thursday November 23 and at Kasbah Club, Dolans, on Saturday November 25. Further gigs are happening in Cork (Crane Lane, November 21 and Galway (Roisín Dubh, November 24).
