Waves and seaweed cause Limerick road closure

road flooding, aquaplaning, flooded road
High tides are expected in Limerick across the October Bank Holiday Weekend, with the council saying flood defences have been deployed.

The N69 at Mount Trenchard, outside Foynes is currently flooded due to strong winds and high tides with waves and seaweed blowing onto the road.

A spokesman for Limerick City and County Council said that the road will be closed until 8pm tonight to prevent aquaplaning and for the safety of all road users.

The following diversions are in place:

  • West bound road users are advised to take the R524 Shanagolden, travel via Shanagolden towards Ballyhahill and onto Glin or Ballyhaill and return back to the N69.
  • Eastbound road users are advised to turn off the N69 at Loghill, travel towards Ballyhahill, turning left for Shanagolden and onto the R524 and return back to the N69.
