SCOTTISH band Franz Ferdinand make a return to Dolan’s Warehouse this weekend. Scenes of stage-diving and mayhem greeted the band on the last visit in February 2009. This time around it is over 2 years since Franz Ferdinand have played in public and fans can expect to hear some new songs as a fourth album is planned for later this year. Singer, Alex Kapranos revealed that the band promised themselves they would not over-publicizing their progress as he felt that is something he regretted about their previous album.
LEADING Armies is a new young Limerick band, engaged entirely in its own songwriting and music, that is flying high on the radar currently. On Thursday 26 it ws one of four competing bands in Dolan's Support the Saw Doctors competition that the four play off live in front of judges and the jury of audience. [Up against Animal Beats, Black Road and Tractor Bomb, the final vote ultimately went to Animall Beats to support The Sawdoctor's Riverfest gig in the Milk Market's Big Top this Friday May 4].
Limerick Institute of Technology celebrates music next Thursday May 3 with the inaugural LIT Music Festival, hosted and run by staff and students of the Music Technology Programmes. A showcase for upcoming talent the event will feature six bands playing and DJs and producers will perform under the Macronite Colective banner.
NOW in its 30th anniversary year, International dance Day brings dance and dancers together in celebration of dance. This Sunday April 29 dance artists will offer free classes and creative workshops to the Limerick dance and wider community throughout the whole day and showcase a variety of dance pieces in the evening showcase. The St. John’s Church will hold classes for the wider community in a range of styles for all ages and abilities.
