BUDDING fashion designers in Limerick are being invited to take part in a Recycled Fashion Competition which has been launched by Junk Kouture, in association with the European Recycling Platform (ERP).
The competition, which is in its second year, sets the challenge to budding fashion designers among secondary school students, inviting them to rework trash and other already used materials and craft them into remarkable high-end couture fashion for both men and women. ERP is delighted to be getting involved in only the second year of the competition.   The Junk Kouture team will be arriving in Limerick on November 14 and local secondary schools are welcome to request a visit.  Elizabeth O’Donnell, co-ordinator of the Junk Kuture, explains:
“The recycled fashion competition will feature regional semi finals across all four provinces, and culminate in the grand final in Dublin on April 20, 2012.
“The winning school will receive €2,500 in prize money, with the team €500, IT equipment to the value of €1,000, and a place on a weeklong fashion design course at the Grafton Academy, Dublin.
“The integration of electrical waste into the design forms part of the challenge, with a special prize to be awarded by ERP for its most inspired and creative use”.
Encouraging Limerick schools to get involved, Ms O’Donnell said she has embarked on a whistle stop tour and will visit Limerick on Monday, November 14.
