Elaine Griffin is sounding the alert with respect to insulating materials and choices for the Winter effected through soft furnishings.
“Now is the time to look head with respect to controlling light, draught and sound interference with quality blinds and curtains,” she explains. “Tab-top curtains and poles have been popular for a long time and they look great but have little insulation power. There is a return in trend to pelmet curtains which are good to seal out draughts and light. A pelmet also makes it possible to place the curtain rail close to the window, maximising insulation”.
She recommends heavy fabrics for wintery windows and there is the option of interlining for added weight and warmth, giving that luxuriously thick textured drape.
“Or you can have curtains with blackout lining to muffle noise and light and cold. Blackout blinds come in all sorts of colours and designs. These fit snugly into a Velux or dormer window, boosting insulation and they work well as roller blinds also”.
