Nightmarish souls for Hallowe’en
CentreStage Youth Theatre (CYT) will begin A/ W 2010 this Saturday 18 at 5pm in CentreSPACE Studios, St Alphonsus Street with rehearsals. Ambitious, vibrant youth out there, get the message that if aged between 16 and 23 years, new members are welcome to join in the nightmarish few weeks ahead. Act now or miss the (legitimately) ghoulish time of your life.

The next challenge is the preparation of Tim Burton’s A Nightmare before Christmas - and Hallowe’en is when the curtain goes up.
Auditions for principal roles in will take place in October on Thursday 28, Friday 29 and Saturday 30 in CentreSPACE Studios) but rehearsals to get a sense of music, pace, direction and character begin as of this weekend. Since its inception, CYT has had two busy years, putting out and on four full shows that staged in big public venues.

This theatre group produced ‘Les Miserables’ in UCH, ‘CHESS’ and ‘A Night at the Musicals’ in CentreSPACE Studios and staged RENT in the LIT Millennium Theatre. Full details on www.centrestageireland.com/youththeatre.

City wide show for youth
My Limerick is a city wide exhibition of work by young artists aged 16 to 22 years taking place in January next year. The exhibition will be curated by a team of young Limerick artists led by Hugo Byrne. Selected works will be exhibited at locations throughout the town including the new look Belltable gallery space, Hunt Museum and Limerick Civic Trust sites.

An information morning will be held on Saturday 2nd October at Belltable Offsite at 36 Cecil Street over two hours from 11am to 1pm. Kit Downes Trio are jazz babes
JAZZ season had a class act in Rhythm Method’s new composition music a week ago, the launch act at Dolan’s Upstairs. Look ahead to Wednesday September 22 for the next guest slot to attend, led by the 24 year old pianist and composer Kit Downes.

“Downes exploded onto the British Jazz Scene playing with the band Empirical, taking him through Europe and America, and then with Troyka, Fraud and Acoustic Ladyland,” says Limerick Jazz Society, host organ. “Two years on, Kit moved on to his own trio project and this debut album sees him developing as a strong voice both as a performer and composer”.

He will be joined in Dolan’s by his two Royal Academy colleagues, award winning bassist Calum Gourlay and rising drum star James Maddren.
“The music displays a level of understanding and intelligence between players that can only come from working closely together for a number of years.  They read each other perfectly”.
This highly original music....uses melody, inspired from a range of sources ranging from Bela Bartok to Keith Jarrett to Rufus Wainwright. The gig is open to everyone over 18 with a passion for skilled musicianship, ensemble playing and jazz’s wilder reachers. Band on 9pm; see www.dolans.ie.
