LIMERICK Musical Society will host its annual Season’s Greetings concert in a candlelit St. Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday, December 10 at 7.30pm. Expect an upbeat, festive night out with the word “heartwarming” central to a heavy programme of music and song.

Several choirs - Seoda, Cantette, County Limerick Youth Choir, Bruff School Choir and Limerick Wind Ensemble - will alternate with solo performances for what is an enormous production.

“The concert is a Yuletide performance from Limerick Musical Society and guests to get everybody in good spirits for the festive season,” says LMS. “Last year captivated audiences were held spellbound as some of the best local talent in the city and county took their breath away with the magnitude of the performances”.

Baritone Nyle Wolfe is the special guest, joined by Limerick sopranos Sarah Dolan and Roisin Walsh and contralto Sarah-Ellen Murphy.

Wolfe launched his second solo album, Home Ground this year, the follow up to Moodswings.

A graduate of Zurich’s prestigious International Opera Studio, he was engaged as principal baritone at the Gelsenkirchen Opera, Germany from 2000 to 2006.

Roisin Walsh has competed in Feile Luimni and Feis Maitiu and won this year’s Interpretation competition in the Feis Ceoil, Dublin.

Soprano Sarah Dolan has graduated with a Bachelor of Music honours degree from the Conservatory of Music and Drama. A finalist in the Dublin Institute of Technology Thomas Moore competition for Young Singers 2008 in the National Concert Hall, she was awarded a Thomas Moore bursary and has recorded Moore’s melodies.

Sarah-Ellen Murphy is a thoroughly qualified contralto, winning the 2006 Feis Ceoil in Dublin and the Margaret Dillon Memorial Trophy for overall voice of the festival.

Richie Ryan will direct this December 10, 7.30pm concert, with musical direction by Maire Keary-Scanlon and Derbhla De Paor leading the Boherbuoy Brass and Reed Band’s selection from My Fair Lady.  You can email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
