AFTER one year and over 5,000 kilometres later, Tess, the 24 foot rowing boat that cast Limerickman Sean McGowan into the annals of history as the first Irishman to row the Atlantic, has returned home.

Tess, his boat that took him from La Gomera in the Canaries to Antigua in over 118 days of gruelling rowing, finally rolled into Shannon Rowing club, where it all began.

Ryanair-Shannon-11THERE was a further blow for Shannon Airport this Wednesday when Ryanair announced it was to cut its number of flights from Shannon by 21%.
They are to close the Shannon-Paris route from November 1; Shannon-Gatwick is to be reduced from seven to six rotations per week; Shannon-Stansted from 13 to 11.

Family forced to flee city estate PDF Print E-mail

A family that fled their home in terror from intimidation and abuse, is now homeless.

The mother and four children are dispersed between relatives, taking shelter in overcrowded conditions.

One of her sons has been so traumatised that he has not attended school. A daughter has taken refuge with an older relative, but does not go outside.

HSE and INMO clash on hospital cuts PDF Print E-mail

HSE management are insistent that taxpayers deserve more from the INMO, after it was claimed that Mid Western Regional Hospital had descended into “chaos”.

They were responding to a statement from the Mid West INMO that a change in work practices and processes at the hospital would free up significant resources to “balance the books”.
