The Magic of Motown

Celebrating  50 years since Berry Gordy Jnr created the Tamla record label, the Magic of Motown tribute concert show is coming to town. UCH is the venue of choice, large enough to meet the stage and audience demands of this music and dance spectacular on Thursday April 23, 8pm.

Tamla Motown records brought the likes of the Temptations, Diana Ross and the Supremes, the Four Tops, Stevie Wonder, Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, Lionel Richie, Martha Reeves, Smokey Robinson, Mary Wells, the Isley Brothers and Jimmy Ruffin to the world.

The distinctive Motown sound was created by Berry Gordy Jnr back in 1957. Beginning his music career as a song writer – he co-wrote international hit Reet Petite for Jackie Wilson – Gordy Jnr reinvested his money to set up Tamla Records in 1959 and subsequently Motown.

It was not just the music that set Berry’s signings apart. For mass market appeal, performance artists’ images were controlled from dress and choreography, right down to their public manner.

The Magic of Motown will be one of the biggest live concert shows to hit Limerick. There is a cast of 15 on stage, performing the hits that helped The Commodores and so many more recorded to project black soul music into mainstream dominance through the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s.
