Exotic Plants and Magic Beans

CentreStage Theatre School, based in CentreSpace Studios, Alphonsus Street, Limerick is proud to present Little Shop of Horrors and Jack & the Beanstalk at UCH on Sunday May 10. Young Jack Eibhin O’Dwyer  (age 10) lives with his mum who is played by Sarah O’Connell (age 9) when one day she sends him to the market to sell their old cow Daisy played by Isabelle Shier (age 10).

On the way to the Market Jack meets a stranger who offers him five beans in exchange for Daisy and tells him they are magical Beans. When Jack returns home his mother is so angry with him that she sends him to bed, and throws the beans out the Window. 

Jack wakes up to find a giant Beanstalk has grown over night.  He climbs the beanstalk to a magic castle in the clouds and with Hen’s that lays Golden eggs, Harps that sing, Birds, Donkeys and of course a Bean Seller played by Yasmine McGarvey (age 10) as the confusion ensues.   Other CentreStage students include the The Giant played by Aoife Keogh (age 11), Giant 2 played by Maurice Cusack (age 12), and not forgetting the Moon played by Eimear Mooney (age 11).

This Classic fairy tale has delighted young audiences over decades with it’s humorous touches will no double delight audiences in UCH.  The second half of the nights entertainment will be in the capable hands of the Teenager classes. This cast will present a version of Ashman and Menken’s Tony award winning Musical comedy ‘ The Little SHOP of Horrors’. In The Little Shop of Horrors A down-and out skid row floral assistant called Seymour, will be played by Martin Atkinson (age 14yrs) who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant with a mysterious craving for fresh human blood. Soon “Audrey II” who will be played by Lee Dillon (Age 14yrs) grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers Seymour fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite.

“Audrey II“  finally reveals itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination in what is a very funny and entertaining show. Musical numbers include Suddenly-Seymour, Da Doo, Skid Row, Somewhere that’s Green and the upbeat tile song, Little Shop Of Horror’s.  The CentreStage Theatre School end of Year Showcase is a highlight for the students and takes place in the University Concert Hall on Sunday May 10.
