International award for composer/ pianist
COMPOSER, musician and school director Denis Carey (pictured) is Composer of the Year. The award maker is Liveireland.com, one of the worldโs largest internet stations for Irish and Celtic music.
It describes Carey as โIrelandโs best all-round piano player. A master. This yearโs album Moving On also cements his spot as one of the Irelandโs truly great composersโ.
The Limerick based maestro was delighted and bemused by the accolades streaming from http://my.liveireland.com/profiles/blogs/the-livies-liveireland-music. He admitted to Arts page, โIโd disagree with a few of those! But itโs good to get some feedback from music journalists and critics and anyone elseโ.
This is not the first international award Denis Carey has garnered. His first album, An Turas (The Journey), was released in 2001 and earned him Composer of the Year Award from the Chicago Irish-American News.
Director of the Peter Dee Academy of Music on OโConnell Avenue, the dedicated Newport man is a regular player in Newfoundland lively Breton culture, backing several charity concerts in Ireland annually as well.
