Facebook vital to UL’s first seven weeks

UL have demonstrated their commitment to new students by using Facebook to ease them into college life.
Their innovative First Seven Weeks orientation programme was started after research showed that the first weeks were vital for students to become familiar with the campus and its services.

Each of the first seven weeks has a theme to help students focus on various issues important to settling into higher education.
Associate Vice President Academic Professor Sarah Moore said: “Research has shown us that incoming students who do not engage with certain aspects of university life in their first number of weeks on campus are unlikely to do so throughout their time at university”

Central to the initiative is a facebook page www.facebook.com/first7weeks which provides a direct link to incoming students,
Throughout orientation week first year students have been encouraged to add this page as a friend in order to receive instant information on campus orientation activities and to give them a direct route to seek help on any aspect of their orientation as they may need it.
