John Cregan TD pulls out of election

OUTGOING West Limerick Fianna Fail TD John Cregan has withdrawn from the 2011 General Election in what is believed to be a row over the party’s new front bench.

He was the only Limerick TD not selected to sit on new leader Micheál Martin’s front bench.

In a statement Deputy Cregan said the party had: ‘sent out a very clear signal to me and indeed the Constituency that he was strongly favouring one candidate above the other’.

He also felt that the playing field was ‘no longer level’ after constituency colleague Niall Collins was appointed spokesperson on Defense.
