Prokofiev’s classic Cinderella ballet

PROKOFIEV’S classic ballet Cinderella will delight with its supreme delicacy at University Concert Hall on Wednesday February 16.  The Ballet Theatre UK “aims to bring the most magical and captivating moments of classical ballet to audiences of all ages, delighting them with a passion and energy that is truly inspiring”.

This is a major production. Cinderella pirouettes on tour with 16 professional dancers, several glittering stage sets and at least 50 handcrafted costumes. Many of the ballerinas have performed with major UK and European ballet companies, including The Royal Ballet and English National Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and Paris Opera Ballet.
The company visiting Limerick, Ballet Theatre UK, hopes to promote “an awareness and appreciation of the arts…presenting classical dancers in a visual and accessible way”.
Sergei Prokofiev took his time writing this absolutely beautiful work, inspired by Charles Perrault’s fairytale celebrating the pursuit of true love in impossible circumstance. Five years on, the Russian finished it at the close of World War 2 after his opera War and Peace, and Frederick Ashton went on to make this two act Cinderella great. Tickets are €15 to €25 for Cinderella’s 8pm curtain call on Wednesday 16.
