THE death has occurred of Elaine Fagan, aged 25 and who was one of the world’s oldest survivors of the rare disease Edward’s Syndrome.
Edward’s Syndrome, or Trisomy 18 as it is formally known, is a rare chromosome abnormality associated with both extreme mental and physical disorders.
She is survived by her parents, Michael and Kay, sister Nicola and brothers David and Brian.

Michael Fagan, well-known hotelier, told Limerick Post last year that Elaine attended St Vincent’s, Lisnagry, on a daily basis where a combination of care she received at school and home helped prolong her life.
The funeral Mass was held at St Joseph’s Church, Castleconnell, on this Wednesday.
