Home grown fruit and vegetables

Co-Op Superstores have seen an increase in sales of fruit and vegetable plants since January. This is attributed to Irish people becoming more money-conscious and health-conscious in recent times. According to one of Co-op Superstore’s Garden Centre horticulturists, Jason Fitzpatrick from the Carrigaline store: “Most people start out small but when they see the huge satisfaction out of eating their own produce as well as what they are saving, they become way more adventurous and we see them coming back to our store time and time again as they expand their crop”.

Mr Fitzpatrick has noticed that many people who are starting out for the first time choose transplants, with small plants which have already been started indoors from seedlings.
“As some vegetables take months to mature from seeds, they often require higher maintenance. Vegetables that transplant well include broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, celery, chives, leeks, onions, parsley, peppers, tomatoes and we are delighted to offer a ‘buy two, get one free’ on all Mr. Fothergills Flower, Fruit, Vegetable and Herb Seeds.”

Check out the Mr Fothergills offer as well other products and excellent advice at Co-Op Superstores in Raheen. Open seven days, parking is free.
