Market Royal Wedding screening sparks row

THE Royal Wedding will be shown at the Milk Market as part of Fashion Friday, according to Riverfest organisers, despite reports to the contrary.
However, chairman of the Market Trustees, Cllr Michael Sheehan, is of a different viewpoint.
He told national radio on Wednesday that he first knew about plans to screen the wedding when he read it in the LImerick Post.

Laura Ryan of Limerick Communications Office, told the Limerick Post that the screening would go ahead on Friday April 29, and that any logistical issues could be solved.
“The entire board of Market Trustees makes the decision, and I haven’t been told to pull it.
“As far as I’m concerned it’s going ahead.
“We were always having a fashion event there and will be setting up two screens to project the show, and the wedding will be shown on the same screens.
“They are not huge, but big enough for people to see what Kate Middleton is wearing and our own fashion show.
“I have a team working on the logistics and any issues can be solved”.
She said that traders have signed up to take part in the event on the basis that the wedding will be shown.  However, chairman of the Market Trustees Cllr Michael Sheehan, alleged that he had not been told that the wedding would be shown as part of the event.
“At no stage was it suggested that a big screen be brought in to show the Royal Wedding”, he told the Limerick Post.
“I discussed it with David O’Brien, market manager, and we decided that it was not logistically possible.
“Stall holders will be setting up from 9.30am and the market doesn’t open to the public until 11.30am. The wedding was advertised to be shown from 10.30am.
“There was a misunderstanding of the enormity of the logistics involved”.
Mayor Maria Byrne said that it would take from the event to remove the wedding.
“They are only showing it so people can see the style at the wedding.
“There are 20 businesses showcasing their wares and it is a positive event.
“If the wedding isn’t shown people will probably stay at home”.
