Andy Lee to face “The Technician”

ANDY Lee, one of Limerick’s heroes of boxing and current middleweight contender, will step into the ring against Alex “The Technician” Bunema in a 10 round battle for the NABF Middleweight Championship in Rosemount Illinois on May 18 next. The Castleconnell man, fighting out of Kronks Gym and under the tutelage and guidance of Emanuel Steward, will take his 25-1 record to the Donald E Stephens Convention Centre next month after staging a sensational 10th round knockout comeback against Craig McEwan recently.

Looking to his opponent, Bunema will take his long and respectable career (31-7-2) to Lee, that includes bouts against a long list of world class opponents and as well as beating former world champions Roman Karmazin and Vince Phillips.

The bout will feature on Hitz Boxing’s Rosemount Rumble with its founder Bobby Hitz saying that it “was a real credit to Andy Lee to take on such a tough guy when he could just coast and wait for his title shot”. He added that “there are not a lot of fighters like Andy Lee”.
