Garda ombudsman to investigate Punches Cross collision

A crash in Limerick city centre which injured three, one seriously, is being investigated by the Garda Ombudsman.
On Sunday night May 15 a marked Garda patrol car was in pursuit of a stolen green Honda Accord.
It is believed that gardaí signalled to the driver to stop the car but he continued to drive erratically, breaking a red light.

At around 11pm the stolen car crashed into two other vehicles at the junction of O’Connell Avenue and Punches Cross.
A man and two women in one of the other vehicles suffered minor injuries, while the 17 year old driver of the stolen vehicle was in a critical condition when taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital, where he remains.
Forensic Collision Investigators were at the scene following the crash and gardaí at Roxboro are appealing for witnesses.
