WE are all invited to the VTOSย Art, Craft and Designย end-of-year showcase of works by students at City of Limerick VEC on Wednesday June 1. The VTOS candidates will hold a one-day exhibition of artwork at the Adult Education Service building (the former โRed Techโ) on OโConnell Avenue, open on a walk-in basis from 10am to 3pm. The exhibition is comprised of various categories such as Paintings, Drawings, Batiks, Designs and Ceramics. Even so, thisย represents just a section of the total output created in one academic year alone.
Courseย leader, Jayne Foley says: โItโs exciting for us to show this work as itโs important for any artist to have their work viewed by the public. In essence, a public viewing is the final element in the creative process and this gives the students the chance toย gaugeย that reactionโ.
Having begun in September 2010, these students developed their skills โthrough equal measures of hard work and encouragement, both from the staffย and from each otherโ.
The VTOS Art, Craft and Design course is an opportunity to begin on the road for a life working in the creative industries.
โMuch discussion has taken place in Ireland in the last few years in relation to the arts being a key driver in economic resurgence,โ comments Ms Foley. โThis can add to the enhancement of the Irish brand as it is viewed from outside the country. These students will be involved in the development of that brand as they continue on their careersโ.
