‘Four singers, Four hearts, One evening’

WAITING on Love? We have all been there, done that and longed for more. That sensation of emotional and sensual hunger has fed the  power in the most affecting love songs in the world, balm to the heart-torn. We can attend to these feelings of hope, anticipation, of  cashiered chips and their loss at the love casino on Monday and Thursday nights in August.

CentreStage Productions has launched a new cabaret titled ‘Waiting on Love’ that wears its four hearts collectively on the stage at CentreSPACE in St Alphonsus Street. Singer Conor J Ryan placed Arts page in the scene:
“This is a show created by the five us taking part, that’s Theodora Byrne, Niall O’Halloran, Martha O’Brien, our musical director Eoin Scanlon on piano, and myself. We have changed the layout of the theatre at St Alphonsus Street to that of tables and chairs, a candlelit atmosphere around which the audience will sit and the singers engage in song, poetry and the text of love”.
Note that subtitle to ‘Waiting on Love’ is ‘Four Singers, Four Hearts, One Evening’ (and reader, our nod to the pianist).
Each of these entertainers has been trained by the show’s producer Richie Ryan through CentreStage over the years and has acquitted themselves on stage with increasing momentum.
“This cabaret is influenced by various musical genres, those of classical, pop, jazz and musical theatre. We sing the songs of Billy Joel, Etta James, Stephen Sondheim, Tori Amos and others”.
Not a lazily cobbled night of friends jamming for a bob, one suspects. There are other inducements to surrender to the yearning and wallow of Berlin’s underground scene of the Weimer Republic, when love blew kisses down a satin evening glove to the darling officer, or five.
‘Waiting on Love’s €10 in (pre-booked) will charm a glass of wine and chocolate from our hosts even as the senses are serenaded. Enjoy a pre-theatre supper in Dolan’s Pub next  door first and your ticket in for just €20.
Thursday August 11, Monday August 15 and Monday 22 at 7.30pm. €12 at the door or book onliine at www.centrespace.ie for contact details.
