On The Nail
UPSTAIRS at Foley’s Bar is the venue fo Tuesday October 4’s On The Nail monthly collective for literary goings-on. Organised by Limerick Writers’ Centre, this popular monthly reading and open-mic continues to attract audiences with a mix of poetry, prose and music for 8pm sessions.

“This month our guests are Stephen James Smith and Enda Reilly, and we are continuing on our ‘10 Minute Play’ series,” says Dominic Taylor, linchpin. “Stephen James Smith is a remarkable performance poet and a bit of a legend in Dublin. Not only is he a former Cúirt International Literary Festival Grand Slam Poetry Champion, he is also the MC and organiser of the excellent weekly Glór Sessions in The International Bar”.
Dublin singer-songwriter Enda Reilly writes in both English and Irish, and his Irish songs can be heard regularly on RTÉ Radio na Gaeltachta.

Villainous barons,  vases and soprano
‘SIR William Hamilton, the Fake Baron and the British Museum’s Sunken Vases’ is the intriguing title of a Hunt Museum lecture.   It will be given by Dr Dominique Bouchard, curator of Education and Outreach on Tuesday October 4  at 1pm and admission is free.
Sir William Hamilton’s collections were formed in Naples, where he was ambassador  in the 18th century during that city’s golden age. His collections brought together many objects which were fascinating to him.
“In the 1760s, Hamilton employed the so-called Baron D’Hancarville into his home to manage the publication of his first vase collection,” reports Dr Bouchard. “The man chosen by Hamilton arrived in Naples in October 1763 already preceded by a reputation as , at best, an adventurer, and at worst a swindler..”.
Gulp. An interesting lunch hour unfolds on Tuesday 4.
That evening at 5.30pm in the Hunt, there is a reception with Music Network for ‘Anda Jaleo – Songs of the People’ recital of South American music in The Captain’s Room. The concert follows at 6.30pm with soprano Deirdre Moynihan and Alec O’Leary on guitar.
