Eagles to face Star this weekend

UL Eagles menโ€™s basketball have their first home game of the season in the University Arena at UL on Sunday the 9th of October 2011 with a 3.30pm tip-off.

Belfast Star provide the opposition and it is set up to be a really competitive game. The Limerick lads will be keen to get their new season at home off to a good start and all eyes will be on new coach Mark Keenan and his players on Sunday next. Similarly the Belfast boys will trying to get a win to start their season off.
Last weekend UL Eagles did not get off to the perfect start as losing out 78-62 at the Neptune Stadium. Eaglesโ€™ cause wasnโ€™t helped by the absence of American Johnnie Jefferson, who is awaiting clearance before playing his first game for the Limerick club.
In the Nivea Womenโ€™s SuperLeague, holders UL enjoyed a comfortable start to the season as Aoife McDermott struck 20 points as her side beat Meteors 74-44.
โ€œItโ€™s nice to get that opening win,โ€ said UL Head Coach James Weldon. โ€œWe had some great performances with Aoife (McDermott) coming into the starting five and doing extremely well.
โ€œWe needed this as we have two tough trips to Dublin on the horizon and hopefully it will help us build some momentum now.โ€
