The 8 kilometre event has been hosted in Limerick since 1998.
A huge amount of organisational work goes into making the Limerick Women’s Mini-Marathon a success. Organiser Edel O Shea said Limerick Athletic Club and its members have worked tirelessly to ensure the continued success of the mini-marathon. “There’s a lot of organisation involved but we love doing it and are delighted that it has grown to become such a fantastic day,” she said. “The media have supported us since its inception and it is because of this support along with the VHI and our other partners, Limerick County Council and Shannon Development that we can continue to host this great event,” she said.
Elaine Barry of the Limerick City Sports Partnership said similar meet and train groups have also been organised in the city. “Catering for all fitness levels there are sessions taking place at Shelbourne Park on Mondays at 6 pm, the LIT carpark on Wednesdays at 6pm and in Raheen (opposite dry cleaners in Industrial estate) at 6pm on Fridays. Limerick Walking Association also meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays on the South Circular Road, in Caherdavin and UL with many more groups meeting across Limerick city. For a full list check www.limerickcitysports.ie and everyone is welcome to take part,” she added.
