GARDAI will object to the compassionate release of the incarcerated Dundon brothers to attend the funeral of their mother Anne McCarthy Dundon, who died after being struck by a 4×4 jeep in London recently.ย Sons, Dessie – serving life for the murder of Kieran Keane, Gerard, serving five years for convictions of extortion and violent disorder and Wayne and John who are in custody awaiting trial an allegations of threatening to kill, are all members of the McCarthy Dundon clan that are in prison and are set to make applications for temporary release to attend the funeral.
Anne McCarthy Dundon lived in the UK while her four sons remained in Ireland. A fifth brother, Kenny, lives in London.
Limerick born Anne, raised the Dundon boys in London before the family returned to Limerick in the 90s to reunite with their relations the McCarthys, but she returned to the UK years later.
It is understood that the remains of Anne McCarthy Dundon, who is survived by her mother Nancy, husband Kenneth, sons and daughter, are to be returned to Limerick for burial next to her father, John โThe Manโ McCarthy.
Separately, five people have been arrested by Limerick gardai assisted by the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation in connection with the ongoing investigations into the deaths of Shane Geoghegan (November 2008), Roy Collins (April 2009) and James Cronin (April 2008). The arrests took place in the Midlands and Dublin areas.
The five, aged in their 20s and 30s were detained at Roxboro, Henry Street, Mayorstone, Clondalkin and Whitehall garda stations under section 42 of the Criminal Justice Act.
