Double Weekend for Eagles

UL Eagles returned to the summit of the Southern Conference after edging out Belfast Star 70-65 in a tense affair last weekend. Star looked set to be heading for their first win of the season at half time, leading 45-28, but the Limerick outfit fought back to earn their fifth win of the series with Irish international Jason Killeen chipping in with 20 points.

“We were 17 points down at half time so we are absolutely delighted we pulled it together in the second half,” said Eagles Head Coach Mark Keenan. We only had seven players, so we are really pleased to have come away with the result.”
UL Eagles face a double header next weekend with games against DCU and Moycullen. First up on Saturday evening 26th Nov is DCU Saints at the University Arena. This is followed on the Sunday 27th Nov with an away fixture to Moycullen at the Kingfisher Gym in NUIG, Galway.
DCU Saints who have been setting the pace in the Northern Conference so far this season and will pose a real challenge for the Eagles. UL Eagles prevailed when the two teams met a few weeks ago in a really tight game up in DCU. This second game between the teams is likely to be another close affair and the Eagles will want to maximise the return from home advantage and get the win.
On Sunday 27th Nov UL Eagles make the relatively short journey to Galway to play an afternoon fixture against Moycullen at their NUIG venue. Moycullen are exhibiting a tough, fighting spirit this season and the Eagles are expecting a really tough game.
In the Nivea Women’s SuperLeague, Rachel Vanderwal was to the fore as she inspired UL to an extremely hard fought 65-53 win over a brave Waterford Wildcats challenge. The Limerick side are now unbeaten in the league since November 2010 but they were made to work for their latest three point haul.
