UNIVERSITY Concert Hall is delighted to welcome the hit tribute show by Toni Lee, acknowledged to be โ€˜the voiceโ€™ of Karen Carpenter. Toniโ€™s smash hit, โ€˜The Carpenters โ€“ A Celebrationโ€™, comes to the concert hall for one night only, Tuesday 29 at 8pm. โ€œToni Lee mesmerised audiences on ITVโ€™s Stars in Their Eyes in her tribute performance to Karen Carpenter,โ€ reports Emma Foote, marketing manager at UCH.ย โ€œThe Carpenters recorded some of the greatest love songs in pop music history, heartbreakers and tearjerkers that captivated not one but three generations of popular music fans.

โ€œThe comparison between Toni and Karen is unreal,โ€ Emma comments. โ€œItโ€™s evident in hitsย  that are timeless including โ€˜Yesterday Once Moreโ€™, โ€˜Superstarโ€™, โ€˜Weโ€™ve Only Just Begunโ€™, โ€˜Please Mr. Postman, (They Long to Be) โ€˜Close To Youโ€™, โ€˜Itโ€™s Going To Take Some Timeโ€™, โ€˜I Wonโ€™t Last A Day Without Youโ€™, โ€˜Rainy Days And Mondaysโ€™, โ€˜Top of the Worldโ€™, โ€˜Ticket To Ride and many more.โ€
This should be a great night of for musicality, romance and nostalgia. At least 10 of The Carpenters singles went on to become million-sellers, and by 2005, combined worldwide sales of albums and singles exceeded 100 million units.
