Limerick hurlers back in the hunt

-

THE LIMERICK senior hurlers have two wins from three in the National Hurling League after a 2-20 to 0-18 win over Wexford last Sunday.

With Offaly at home this Saturday night, (throw in at the Gaelic Grounds is at 7.30pm) John Allen’s charges are right back in the mix for honours in Division 1B of the league.
“Winning brings confidence” commented Allen. The Cork native, speaking to the Limerick Post this week, is looking forward to this weekend’s clash with the faithful county which will form part of a double header. (The footballers face Waterford at 5pm).
“It has been onwards and upwards since the loss to Clare in the first round. The training has been more focussed in the last couple of weeks and the lads are gaining in confidence with every game,” continued the former All Ireland winning coach.
Confidence is huge for Limerick hurling. The loss to Clare had the panic button being reached for by some fans. With injuries to Shane Dowling, Brian Geary, Kevin Downes and Declan Hannon, Limerick have been playing above the sum of their parts if the squad is to be looked at as a whole.
With Offaly this weekend and an away trip to Antrim on April 1 next, Limerick could yet feature in a league final. Allen however is not looking past this weekend.
“Antrim and Offaly are going to be huge tests for us. We know they are hard teams to play. Offaly are two from three also, so we have to be in the right frame of mind if we want that confidence gained to grow”
