The idea of drinks before dinner has its roots in the Prohibition era. When alcohol consumption was banned, citizens would host “cocktail hours” at a speakeasy before eating at restaurants. Cocktail lounges then continued the trend of drinking before dinner.
The emphasis on relaxed glamour in the 1950s drinking culture gave birth to the Cocktail Hour. This wasn’t so much a time, but more of a mood – the time of day when you kick back and relax with a Martini or a Manhattan after a hard day at the office. Cocktail parties became popular as cocktails themselves became fashion accessories. It was all about the difference between a glass of gin with an olive in it, and a Martini – it’s all about style, darling!
Post launch, Cocktail Hour will take place every Thursday and Friday at the Cornstore between 5 and 7pm to accommodate the after-work drinks brigade throughout the summer months. So release that neck tie gents, and rest those weary heels ladies, by making this your first stop as you relax, unwind and ease yourself into the weekend…
