Impostor asking for household charge payments

A SCAM artist has been calling to homes in county Limerick claiming to be from the local authority and demanding people pay over their household charge to him. A lady in her 80โ€™s, from Pallaskenry, contacted the Limerick Post to enquire whether collecting the tax door-to-door is now policy. She said that a man called to her door last week claiming to be collecting the money and the late payment fee. โ€œHe had identification and everything. I didnโ€™tโ€™ let him in but I didnโ€™t pay him either – I told him I was refusing to pay the charge,โ€ the woman said.

Limerick County Council confirmed when contacted by the Limerick Post, that there is no member of staff or any agent being sent door-to-door to collect the charge.
โ€œWe have no-one to to do that. If anyone asks for money for the charge on the doorstep, they do not represent Limerick County Councilโ€ .
The council spokesperson said that under current circumstances, there is no plan to send staff door-to-door to collect the tax.
The spokesperson was puzzled as to how the caller had identification but speculated that it is possible he had stolen ID which belonged to a legitimate council employee.
