Munster heat of Poetry Slam
PERFORMANCE poets and spoken word artists of the Mid West will slam-dunk their works for Munster heat of the All Ireland Poetry Slam. The Locke Bar & Restaurant is the venue for Tuesday September 11, 8.30pm, heading for the upstairs Loft Venue.

โ€œA slam is a performance poetry competition in which poets perform for not more than three minutes,โ€ explains Dominic Taylor of Limerick Writers Centre. โ€œThe winner will be chosen by an a three person panel. The prize on offer is the honour of representing Munster in the 6th All Ireland Poetry Slam which will be held during November in Corkโ€.
Poets wishing to enter the slam on Tuesday 11 need 2x three minute poems, ideally performed without a script.

A famously emotive, upbeat director and musician, Pekka Kuusisto will open the ICOโ€™s 2012/3 season.

Finn Folk & Baroque

THE Irish Chamber Orchestra celebrates European Year for Active Ageing 2012 and solidarity between generations with Clรบid through a unique concert. Taking place in UCH on Thursday September 27, 8pm, the orchestra will present a concert โ€˜Finn Folk & Baroqueโ€™, directed by the โ€œfirebrandโ€ Pekka Kuusisto who has an established bond with the Irish Chamber Orchestra.ย ย  ย 
An eclectic programme features Rautavaaraโ€™s Fiddlers interspersed with original 17th century Finnish tunes by Samuel Rinda-Nickola alongside classic works by Bach and Bartรณk.ย  Bachโ€™s Violin Concerto No 2 in E, BWV 1042, leaps to life with delightful interplay between violin and harmonium played by Milla Viljamaa.ย  ย  ICO leader, Katherine Hunka joins Pekka for Bachโ€™s irresistible Concerto for Two Violins in D minor BWV 1043. ย  Bartรณkโ€™s Divertimento, with its gypsy rhythms, is infused with Kuusistoโ€™s quirky style.
Children from the ICOโ€™s Sing Out with Strings orchestra will sing and play at the concert interval.ย Together these budding young musicians will perform a piece with members of the ICO bridging the generation gap and providing a delightful treat for all attending.ย ย Book at ww.uch.ie and 061-331549.
