โThe Georgian Quarter is a superb setting for this artistic venture.โ
A NEW opportunity for artists and lovers of art will get underway in Limerickโs Georgian Quarter on Sunday, September 16.
A new open air exhibition โArt on the Parkโ will host open air exhibitions that are modelled on the well established exhibitions at Dublinโs Merrion Square.
The paintings, which will be displayed on Pery Square, will showcase some of Limerickโs most attractive amenities, including the Peopleโs Park, the Georgian Quarter etc.
The event is being co-ordinated by Patricia Roberts, from No.1 Pery Square Hotel and Limerick Art Society, which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.
โThe Georgian Quarter is a superb, tranquil setting for this artistic venture,โ says Ms Roberts.
โA similar scheme has been running successfully in Merrion Square in Dublin for years and we now want to raise the profile and showcase the Georgian Quarter of Limerick and believe that Art on the Park is the perfect way to help us do so.
โWeโre encouraging all Limerick artists and printmakers to take part – hopefully it will be a big success and become a regular sight in Pery Square.โ
Limerick artists will exhibit original paintings and limited edition prints in the โArt on the Parkโ exhibition, which means visitors get an opportunity to purchase unique art directly from the artist.
โThey also get to meet the artists, discuss their work and get an insight into their colourful occupation and life – all the family can enjoy art in this cultural setting and the artists are happy to talk about their work with passers by,โ says Ms Roberts.
Pat OโNeill of Limerick Arts Society is keen for all artists to get involved.
โWe have a wealth of wonderful artists in Limerick and this is a perfect way for them to showcase their work,โ he said.ย
โAs Limerick is the first Irish City of Culture in 2014, weโre delighted to begin running a regular event like Art on the Park to profile our local artists and weโre hoping that the people of Limerick will come out and support our first such event on Sunday, September 16.โ
Aiming to make โArt on the Parkโ a regular feature on Sunday mornings in Limerick, the organisers believe that many people, both natives and visitors to the city will take a stroll around Pery Square when it becomes an open-air art gallery.
No commission is included in the price of the paintings and the exhibition will run from 10am-2pm.
Artists who wish to exhibit their work should pick up a form in No.1 Pery Square reception or email [email protected]
