Bowie’s career under the spotlight

IT is 40 years since the release of the single ‘Changes’ by David Bowie. Following on from a number of symposia on Morrissey, University of Limerick is convening one on the iconic performer that Bowie is. The three day October 26-28 symposium on his long and varied career will include a live show by Rebel Rebel, a Bowie Tribute Group. Expect panel discussions and presentations on Bowie.

Some of the highlights will be ‘Everything’s Falling Into Place: An Analysis of Maturation in David Bowie’s Music’; ‘Smiling Through This Darkness: Rethinking Bowie in the ‘80s’ on Friday 26 and ‘From David Bowie to Diamond Dogs: the obfuscation of self and the triumph of alienation, as traced through an iconographical analysis of the artist’s first eight album covers’ (phew) on Saturday October 27. There will also be a Station To Station Bowie Night in Scholars on Saturday 27 night where DJ Eoin Devereux plays the best of Bowie’s songs.
The Symposium on David Bowie takes place over the last weekend of October at UL.
