LIMERICK band Protobaby will feature on the cover of Hot Press Magazine this fortnight representing the West and Mid-West. The band won the regional heat for the Guinness Arthur’s Day – Play on The Day competition on Friday November 2. Now only four acts remain in the race to win the ultimate prize from the hundreds of bands and artists who submitted tracks for consideration. Also competing on the night were Animal Beats, Paddy Dennehy and The Red Herring and Strange Boats.
All bands delivered strong performances and were well received by the audience making the judges decision very difficult.
The prize up for grabs for the overall winner includes a recording session in RTÉ studios, the release of a single, with no strings attached and thousands of euro worth of top of the range musical instruments and equipment.
Protobaby will now join ‘In Their Thousands’ and ‘The Hot Sprockets’ and ‘The Calvinists’ in a final showdown in Whelan’s Dublin on Wednesday November 21.
“A huge number of votes were cast and the competition is fierce,” Hot Press editor Niall Stokes said. “It is really great to see that there are so many great artists and bands in Ireland right now, across every genre of contemporary music.”
