Postbag cheques plea

A 22-year-old man has pleaded guilty to 11 counts of theft by deception after presenting cheques stolen from a postbag at shops and banks around Limerick city and county.  Sean Leo of Kilballyowen, Bruff, was arraigned at Limerick Circuit Court this week after he admitted to the 11 charges preferred against him. A co accused, who is due in court next month, faces a further 20 similar charges.

The court heard that he presented almost €40,000 worth of stolen cheques to banks and business premises and was also charged with theft from three banks where stolen cheques were cashed to a total value of over €17,500.  Sentencing was adjourned until February 15 next and a co-accused is due before the court in January.
