Real time bus information due in new year

COMMUTERS in Limerick will not have to rely on the sometimes unreliable bus timetables in future as real time bus information signs are set to be up and running early in the new year. Most of the planned 17 signs covering 19 Bus Éireann bus stops are already in place and the company is currently working on a testing programme to ensure accurate information. A spokesperson for the National Transport Authority (NTA) said that like when the signs were first installed in Dublin and Cork, they will require a testing phase. The NTA and Bus Éireann are now testing and refining the system to ensure its accuracy.

Subject to this process, it is expected that the signs will be fuly operational by February.

The signs will be installed at: Childers Road; St Nessans Road (Crescent Shopping Centre); St Nessan’s Road (Regional Hospital); UL; Westbury; Hurlers Pub; Kilmurry Lodge; Cratloe Road; Sarsfield Street (Debenhams); William Street (Superdug pharmacy); Henry Street (Dunnes Stores); High Road (Thomondgate); Hyde Road (opposite the post office) and Upper Mallow Street (People’s Park).

The signs will only display information relating to Bus Éireann services but it is possible that other bus operators will come on board in future.
