Press Ball fund-raising helps city charities

LOCAL charities will be €15k better off thanks to the efforts of the 2012 Limerick Press Ball.

Money raised from the event has been distributed to the chosen charities, with St Vincent de Paul and Limerick Marine Search and Rescue, to benefit largely this Christmas.

The two main organisations received €5,000 each with five other deserving charities each receiving assistance to the tune of €1,000 each.

The Ball was held last September in the Castletroy Park Hotel, and marked the 60th anniversary of the ball. Personalities from the region’s television, radio and print media turned out in large numbers to support the event.

The cheques were presented by deputy mayor cllr Maria Byrne who paid tribute to the media for the fundraising and to the recipient groups for the huge voluntary efforts they make.
