Serious assaults
AN APPEAL for witnesses into what has been described as a “particularly vicious assault” are being sought by gardai at Henry Street after a young man was assaulted and suffered bites to his arm and his ear. Sergeant Brian Broderick of the Crime Prevention Officer at Henry Street Garda Station said that on January 2 last “a man in his early 20’s called to Henry Street Garda station to report an assault that had taken place at approximately 3.45am on Denmark Street.

 

“During the assault the young man received what appeared to be bite injuries to his arm and his ear. He was treated at St John’s Hospital and also University Hospital Cork for his injuries.”
Gardaí from Henry Street who are investigating this assault are examining CCTV from the area and they would like to hear from anyone who was in the vicinity of Denmark Street between 3.30am and 4am last Wednesday morning.

A SECOND assault, last Sunday, January 6, is also being investigated after a 43-year-old man was attacked while walking home near Grove Island.
The man was approached by two males, one of whom asked for a cigarette while the second male struck the victim with a wine bottle. The man was later removed to the Limerick Regional Hospital where he received stitches to his forehead.
“The injured man was unable to give a description of his attackers but pedestrians or passing motorists may have seen something, but the Gardaí at Mary Street would welcome at a call at 061 483870,” added Sgt Broderick.

Off-licence robbery

THE Robbery of an off-licence on Saturday January 5 last at the Parkway Shopping Centre is under investigation after two males entered the off-licence, one kept watch while the other threatened a member of staff with a weapon. The raiders got away with a sum of cash in various denominations.
“One of the raiders was wearing a navy Yankee hoody with stripes, dark pants and had a red mask covering his face. The second male was wearing a grey Adidas tracksuit pants, a navy Holister top over a grey hoody. It is believed that the raiders made their escape on foot in the direction of Childer’s Road”.
Gardaí from Henry Street who attended the scene recovered a number of items including clothing in the nearby Norwood Estate. Anyone who saw these two men prior to the robbery or as they made their escape is asked to contact the Gardaí at Henry Street at 061 212400 or any Garda station.

Criminal damage

MARY Street are investigating an incident in which damage was caused to a house and also the householder’s car.
Garda received a report that on Saturday January 5 last, a householder living in St. Mary’s park heard two loud bangs and discovered that a front window as well as the glass on the front door had been smashed.
She also discovered that the headlights and windows of her car had also been smashed. A golf club was recovered at the scene and is being technically examined. Gardaí from Mary Street would like to hear from any witnesses or from anyone who has information about this crime. They can be contacted at 061 483870.

Beer keg thefts

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in trying to locate a vehicle that is believed to have been involved in the theft of beer kegs from various locations around the county in recent weeks.
“A blue Mitsubishi Spacewagon carrying the registration number 98 CE is believed to have been involved in a number of thefts of beer kegs in recent weeks and we would ask any listener who observes or knows the whereabouts of this vehicle to contact any Garda station or to use the Garda confidential phone line at 1800 666 111”.
